CNN —The Eurovision Song Contest is a glittery and eccentric spectacle that rivals the Super Bowl for its attraction to audiences. When combined with the jury vote, Israel’s impressive public vote tally saw Golan finish in fifth place overall. Despite this, the EBU has always insisted that Eurovision is an apolitical music competition between broadcasters, rather than a political competition between governments. The 2023 contest in Liverpool was a moving display of unity — so much that Liverpool’s slogan, “United By Music,” was adopted by Eurovision for all future contests. On Saturday, there was very little sense that Eurovision was “united by music.” Some fans boycotted, while others mobilized online to vote for Israel.

CNN —While Marvel fans are excited for the super-heroic teamup between Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in this summer’s “Deadpool & Wolverine,” there is another character – of the four-legged variety – set to make her debut in the movie as well. “Her real name is Peggy, and she won the award for Britain’s Ugliest Dog,” Reynolds told Empire Magazine in an article published on Tuesday. “It was one of those things where you just keep listening to the movie, and Dogpool became a staple.”According to BBC, Peggy won the unique title of Britain’s ugliest dog in January of 2023. Equipped with her very own “Dogpool” Instagram page, Peggy also appeared in a still from the new movie on Reynolds’ own Instagram in December of last year. “It’s love at first sight,” he told Empire of the bond between his character Deadpool and the pup.

CNN —Since joining Liverpool in 2022, Darwin Núñez has continued to be an entertaining, yet polarizing presence in the English Premier League. This juxtaposition was on full display in Livepool’s league win against Chelsea on Wednesday, where Núñez missed a penalty, made a wonderful assist and then set an unwanted record. Two of those missed chances were brilliant efforts from the striker, but the other two were opportunities he really should have converted. Despite the missed chances, Núñez did pop up with a brilliant assist for Luis Díaz who made it 4-1 to the six-time European champions. CNN —Ever since he joined Manchester City in June 2022, Erling Haaland has scored goals and broken records and, on Saturday against Liverpool, the striker continued to make his mark on history by scoring his 50th league goal for the reigning Premier League champion. No player in Premier League history has reached half a century of goals quicker – Haaland doing so in 48 games. CNN —The cousin of Liverpool soccer star Luis Díaz told CNN on Friday that his family is relieved and “really thankful for all the support from the entire nation,” following the release of Díaz’s father by the National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrilla group on Thursday night. Díaz Sr. was abducted along with his wife, Cilenis Marulanda, by ELN gunmen on October 28 in his hometown of Barrancas, northeastern Colombia. A few hours later, he was received by his relatives and friends at the Díaz family home in Barrancas. Luis Díaz’s cousin, Jose Brito Díaz, spoke with CNN by phone from Barrancas, saying it was a moment of celebration for the entire family and the town at large. Díaz Sr. was welcomed back in his hometown on Thursday.
